Overall, the principles behind confidentiality are about our right to privacy and respecting consent. However, there are times when sharing personal information is necessary, for example to keep you safe.
As a result, we cannot offer you absolute confidentiality.
There are only three circumstances where sharing confidential information is allowed:
- When the person who shared the information consents to that information being shared
- When it is necessary to take action to safeguard that person or others
- When there is a legal duty to do so, for example a court order
As a team, we promote and support children and young people’s right to confidentiality. This is not only true for your personal details, but also your lived experience and opinions. You must give permission for us to pass on your information or feedback, and any feedback provided is anonymised; unless we must take safeguarding action.
